Depression, anxiety and cannabis

Depressions

In the fast-paced world we’re living in today more and more people are suffering from debilitating mental issues such as depression and anxiety. With the recent pandemic numbers are rapidly on the rise. And the way that we interact has changed dramatically in 2020, so anyone suffering from mental health issues are likely to feel even more anxious and/or isolated.

If you suffer mental health issues you don’t necessarily want to be exposed to the outside world, even via social media or things like group chats. There is an answer to your problems that doesn’t involve letting a doctor stuff pills down your throat.

Cannabis can help

It’s already been proven that consuming cannabis in small doses, even daily, can help keep anxiety under control. Most people don’t fully understand how hard it can be to live with these conditions, and doctors and other medical professionals are still unaware of the benefits of cannabis. Therefore, it is no surprise that it is not often prescribed to patients who are obviously in mental turmoil.

This doesn’t mean to say you can go crazy and start smoking countless joints every day, but it cannot be denied that controlled cannabis use can stop your head from spinning so fast it feels like it’s about to explode. If you’re wondering how cannabis works? The THC inside the plant works in combination with the Anandamide in your brain to give you a soothing sensation. In other words, it has a positive affect on your brain’s chemistry.

We can’t forget about it relieving depression

No one can say if anxiety or depression is worse, and they often go hand in hand. Luckily no one needs to, because cannabis can help cure both. Not only can cannabis make you feel relaxed, but it can quiet negative thoughts and the self-doubt that incapacitate the sufferers of these conditions.

Anyone suffering from depression can eventually lose interest in everything, including self-care, but by medicating with cannabis sufferers can be interested in living a normal life again. By living normal life day-by-day, the depression and/or anxiety can eventually go away for good.

It’s only a plant

Cannabis is a natural plant and it’s a big argument for why it should be more widely available for medical (and/or recreational) use. If it is a natural resource, then shouldn’t we have the right to consume it if it’s going to make all our problems go away?

The pills which are so often prescribed by doctors, are manufactured inside laboratories all around the world. These pills generate huge profits for the pharmaceutical giants and their shareholders, so maybe it is they that are preventing the widespread use of cannabis for sufferers. It boggles the mind that you can get into trouble with the law for possessing cannabis, if it has not been prescribed, yet if you visit your doctor, they are more likely to prescribe manufactured opiates and tranquillizers rather than this natural remedy that you can cultivate yourself.

It gets even worse

The opiates and tranquillizers that are prescribed are, often, highly addictive and if taken over prolonged periods can cause terrible side effects such as, anxiety, depression and even death! Addiction to these manufactured drugs is often treated with more manufactured drugs, these drugs can also have severe side effects and withdrawal symptoms. Yet not only can cannabis prevent the need for these drugs in the first place, but it can also help addicts to come off them more easily and with fewer side effects.

The view on cannabis is changing

In November 2018 cannabis was legalised in the UK for medical use when prescribed by a registered specialist doctor. The law was changed because of two epileptic children who experienced significant improvement in their condition and quality of life using cannabis. The UK is the largest exporter of legal cannabis in the world!!! It is still illegal to possess, grow, distribute or sell cannabis in the UK, anyone caught faces up to 14 years in prison, but with the many benefits that cannabis can provide it is important for us to preserve the genetics for future generations.
